Many of us know little about how those within Eastern Orthodoxy view God and their relationship with him. Misunderstandings may arise over our different definitions of words like faith, salvation and repentance. This can make it difficult for us to enter into Gospel conversations with our Orthodox friends and neighbours.
Evangelising Eastern Orthodoxy is a free training course designed to help Christians understand the beliefs and worldview of Orthodox people to equip them to clearly and compassionately communicate the Gospel.
Intended to be run in small groups, each 60-75 minute module has a video introduction followed by small group Bible studies and evangelistic and conversational exercises.

Course Summary
Module 1: The Unknowable God
Explores how Eastern Orthodoxy views God as distant and unknowable, and contrasts this with the biblical teaching that God makes Himself known through Jesus.
Module 2: Becoming God
Examines the Orthodox belief in humanity’s spiritual journey to become like God and contrasts it with the biblical view of salvation by grace through Christ.
Module 3: The Easter Solution
Discusses the Orthodox understanding of sin and the cross, contrasting it with the sufficiency of Jesus’ sacrificial death for complete reconciliation with God.
Module 4: Objections to Grace
Addresses common Orthodox objections to salvation by grace alone and explains the biblical relationship between faith, works, and assurance.
Module 5: Authority and Truth
Considers the Orthodox views on tradition and the authority of “the Church” against the claim that Scripture is the ultimate authority.
Module 6: Family and Culture
Recognises the deep connection and value of culture and family but the priority of serving Christ above all else.
Module 7: Superstition and Honouring Mary
Discusses how to move from two commonly held starting points to conversations about Christ as the only mediator and source of spiritual security.
Module 8: Decision Making and Next Steps
Guides how to help Orthodox friends overcome obstacles to faith and make a personal decision to follow Jesus.
